Capt. Daniel W. Eggers 

was born in Colorado 

and grew up 

New Hampshire. 

In 1987, his family 

moved to Cape Coral, Fla

 where he attended 

high school and 

joined the JROTC. 

29 May 2004.  Afghan government official said Humvee hit a mine in Zabul's mountainous Sorie district. 

Eggers graduated from The Citadel Military College of South Carolina in May 1997 and was commissioned as a second lieutenant. He completed Special Forces training in 2002 and was assigned to his battalion in May 2003 following Arabic language training.

Eggers, who would have turned 29 in July, leaves behind wife, Army Captain Rebecca Eggers, who is stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., and his sons, John, 6, and William, 3. Two brothers, four sisters and his parents, Margaret and William Eggers. One of his brothers, Billy, also is in the military and will be returning to Afghanistan soon. 

Eggers awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Expert Infantryman Badge, the Parachutist Badge and the Special Forces Tab.

Eggers comes from a military family and always wanted to be a soldier, relatives said. His father, William, is a Vietnam veteran and was a lieutenant on the Milford, N.H., police force. His grandfather fought in World War II; his great-grandfather served with Teddy Roosevelt’s Rough Riders.
